Dotted ruling – ideal exercise books for science subjects
Science, geography, chemistry, physics, or mathematics – these are the subjects for which the new dotted-page notebooks are just perfect. The horizontal dots help the pupils keep the text straight while the vertical dotting expands the ways in which the pages can be used. They are great for graphs, diagrams, sketching of nature scenes, or more complex calculations.
Dotted exercise books thus combine the advantages of lined, blank, and squared exercise books. Children no longer have to use blank notebooks with the so-called lazy pads. However, dotted notebooks are not suitable for younger children in the early years of primary school who are just learning to write. They need full lines so that their writing does not run out of the horizontal line.
The exercise books feature dots with regular pitch of 8 × 8 mm. Dotted exercise books are offered in the A4 format with 40 sheets and the A5 format with 20 or 40 sheets. The sheets inside are made of wood-free paper with the weight of 60 g/m2, the cover is made of 150g glossy coated paper.
In the standard numbering of exercise books defined by Papírny Brno that is still used in Czech and Slovak schools, the dotted ruling is characterized by number 8. A small A5 exercise book with 40 sheets of paper is therefore defined by number 548. As for the colour, red covers go for lined exercise books, green ones for squared exercise books, and yellow ones for dotted exercise books.
Motifs on the A5 exercise books were created in collaboration between Papírny Brno and teachers from DELTA – High School of Computer Science and Economics in Pardubice. The covers were created by students during the classes of Computer graphics.
